emergencies

Dental emergencies can come in all shapes and sizes. No matter what kind of dental emergency you’re going through, the experience can be frightening, especially if you aren’t sure what to do!

When you work with us, you’ll always know what to do during a dental emergency. The answer is to contact us immediately! The faster you act, the easier it will be to restore your damaged tooth.

Emergencies can be difficult to define, so you are the best judge of what you’re going through.

If it feels like an emergency, it probably is one! At the very least, it’s worth calling our office to describe your symptoms and learn what your next steps should be. When you call Surf City Endodontics, our dental team will be happy to help you figure out what you should do to help your situation, whether that is scheduling an appointment with our office or your regular dentist.

With all this in mind, there are a few conditions that almost always fall under the category of a dental emergency. Contact us as soon as possible if you’re experiencing any of the following:

  • Severe tooth pain or bleeding.
  • A loose permanent tooth.
  • A broken or badly cracked tooth.
  • A tooth that has been knocked out entirely.
  • Swollen, painful, or discolored gums.

All of these conditions are uncomfortable, and can put your oral health at risk. Contacting us as soon as possible can make a significant difference in your healing time, recovery rate, and overall well-being. Don’t hesitate to ask for treatment today!

We focus on endodontic treatment in our office, which makes us especially well-suited to treat emergencies affecting the inner workings of your tooth’s root canal system.

Emergencies like broken, cracked, or knocked-out teeth often benefit from endodontic treatments like root canals or apicoectomies.

Contacting us and explaining your dental emergency is always the first step. From there we will either get you right into our office for treatment or point you in the right direction.

We strive to be the best possible resource for you and your loved ones.

You might not be able to get to a phone the second that a dental emergency happens—but remember to call us as soon as possible! In the meantime, here are a few steps you can take to reduce your pain and make recovery easier.

IF YOU’VE KNOCKED OUT A TOOTH. . .
Do your best to find the lost tooth, and quickly rinse off any debris with lukewarm water. If possible, store the tooth in your mouth, ideally placing it back in the socket it was lost from. If this is too painful, store the tooth in a clean container of milk.

IF YOU’RE EXPERIENCING SEVERE TOOTH PAIN OR BLEEDING. . .
Gently pressing a cold compress to the area can help with pain and may reduce any swelling. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medications like Ibuprofen can also help make you feel more comfortable.

To stem any bleeding, make sure you’re using a clean piece of gauze or fabric—not something that will disintegrate or stick to the wound like toilet paper, tissues, or even cotton swabs. Hold the fabric to the bleeding area as firmly as possible without causing too much pain.
